Job profile

Who will I be after this apprenticeship? What are my skills?

After your four-year training as a polymechanic, you will be able to independently programme and set up complex computer-controlled milling and turning machines. You will be able to use both CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) tools to produce the smallest precision parts for the medical technology or semiconductor industry as well as complex, large-volume components for the machine industry and countless other products for a wide range of sectors. In addition to the machining of metallic materials, we focus primarily on the machining of plastics. To ensure the quality of the workpieces, you will be able to use and programme high-precision measuring and testing instruments. You will also know what it takes to automate production and will be able to programme robots.

Training programme

What can I expect?

You will spend the first two years of your apprenticeship at libs - Industrielle Berufslehren Schweiz in Rapperswil, where you will complete your basic training. You will learn the following skills: milling (conventional and CNC), turning (conventional and CNC), filing, drilling, thread cutting, reaming, assembly, pinning and electropneumatics.

You will spend the third and fourth year of your apprenticeship in our training workshop. You will spend 10 months each in the milling and turning areas, learning to operate and programme the most complex CNC-controlled machines. You will get to know a wide variety of machine types, from simple three-axis machines to milling and turning centres with five fully synchronised axes and robot equipment.

During this time, you will also learn how to create 3D models and drawings in CAD, which you will then need for CAM programming. You will learn how to take a strategically skilful approach to programming and which machining strategies and tool technologies are available.

In addition to working in the training workshop, you will spend a two-month training block familiarising yourself with quality assurance activities. To familiarise you with our entire company, you will also be introduced to the work of the sales, production planning and control, logistics and polyurethane casting departments.

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete your final project (IPA) in one of the two areas of milling and turning.

Surroundings

Where will I complete my apprenticeship?

libs is based in Rapperswil on the premises of the Weidmann company, close to Rapperswil railway station. The well-equipped infrastructure is the ideal place for your basic training during the first two years. There you will learn the basics in a large team - consisting of apprentices from six professions - before moving to the Buech industrial quarter.

KUNDERT AG is based in the municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the industrial district of Buech. This is located near the Obersee, just outside Jona, but is easily accessible by public transport. All departments are located in our building; from administration, sales, production planning and control, IT, through to the individual production departments and production-related areas such as logistics, quality control and maintenance. As all departments are combined in one place, you will have contact with employees from a wide variety of areas. KUNDERT also employs people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, which makes us a multicultural, yet family-orientated company.

Apprenticeship contract

Who do I enter into my apprenticeship contract with?

You will conclude your apprenticeship contract with libs. You will be supervised by the libs and KUNDERT teams throughout your apprenticeship, including in the last two years, when you will complete your specialised training with us.

Towards the end of your apprenticeship, we will talk to you about possible follow-up solutions and a possible employment contract at KUNDERT.

Highlight

What else is there to say?

The apprentice outing is a special highlight of every year for us. All apprentices from all three professions - commercial employee, polymechanics and production mechanics - and from all year groups take part. Each excursion has a different theme. What counts most on these days is to have fun and experience an unforgettable day.
